Ryan goes to Brimfield....

Boy did I have a haul at Brimfield this weekend!

My first time going to the show, let's just say I got a bit carried away.  Should be lots of inspiration for some coming collections!

For those of you who are not familiar, Brimfield is a thrice yearly show in Sturbridge, MA with over 500 or something antique dealers from across the country.  It's like going to the MET.  You need a week to do it justice.  But you can also do a flying survey in a bout a full day.  Tornado warnings scared us off, but fortunately we were able to see a lot.

I will definitely be returning.  Especially for the special textile auction that accompanies the spring show next year.

So perfect for a Nantucket house!

Love the hand!

And this elephant!

A trunk from the days before rappers ruined a great brand.  Thank god for epi-leather!!

This tray table needs to be in my living room.  Covered with bottles of Blanton's, Bulleit, Gosling's and Hendricks.

Looks like the good 'ol Berkshires.

Cute print from the 70's.  Awful material.

Awesome weathervane for a Nantucket home.

I need this extremely rare weather vane for my shooting lodge.  But maybe I could commission one for less than the $8,000 price tag on this puppy.

Another great find for the living room of a Nantucket house.

I talked about having the dealer cut the edge off this one.  The center is fabulous.  Love the wave-like pattern.

My haul....

Travel Guides: Nantucket Art Galleries 1

The Cavalier Gallery's second floor is a must visit for those interested in contemporary art.

I was obsessed with Nantucket artist Steven Pitluik's brightly colored satires of Nantucket WASP culture, as well as Alex Cao's gigantic tableaus of American icons.

Cao composes his giant images (the JFK is about 10 ft tall by 6 ft wide) from smaller images of iconic photographs that give context to the larger image. (the gallery has a magnifying glass to see the smaller pictures more clearly.) In the JFK series, Cao has hidden a candle for the date that Marilyn Monroe sang to JFK on his birthday as well as the image of a pistol. Good luck finding them out of the thousands of pictures of Jackie!

An essay on celebrity.

Planning on visiting their other location in Greenwich now that I've returned to CT via 12 hours of ferries, buses, trains and taxis-
